Study In Philippines

International Students in Philippines:

It was estimated that in 2015 there were 8000 international students enrolled in medical programs in the Philippines, about 50% of which were Indian nationals. American Physician Statistics have stated that 1 among 10 doctors working in the USA today have studied at a medical university or college in the Philippines.

COST of studying MBBS in Philippines:

The fee for the full 4 year program is usually around INR 15 lacs. Most often, universities require the tuition to be paid annually, which means you will be expected to pay somewhere between INR 2.75 lacs and 3.5 lacs annually depending on which institution you opt to study at. The cost of living is relatively cheaper in the Philippines and will be INR 12000-18000 per month. So your total cost would be somewhere around the range of INR 25-28 lacs.

Philippines and American Education System:

Remember that during the Industrial Revolution, Philippines were a colony of the USA for 50 years? At that time the education system was molded in accordance with the existing American system. Philippines is now the third largest English speaking country with USA based medical education. As an Indian citizen, you have the options of choosing to apply to post-graduation or practicing medicine in the USA or in India with ease if you have completed your undergraduate study in the Philippines. Since the curriculum is more up-to-date in the Philippines than in India (because it’s based on the latest research from the USA), the quality of education is better, which is definitely a huge advantage. Additionally, all reputed medical institutes have faculty that have been trained in the USA itself.

Recognized Degree and No Language Barrier:

By studying medicine in the Philippines, you are earning an internationally recognized degree in medicine. You’re eligible to take various international medical exams so that you can practice in varied countries. If you study medicine in China or Russia, you’ll need to know the local languages for your clinical rotations but, you don’t need to worry about that if you study in the Philippines as over 90% of the locals know English and it’s the medium of communication at universities. Keep in mind that unlike China, Russia and Ukraine, Philippines has a 100% success rate with USMLE, which should significantly affect your application decision.

Degree Recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI):

The accreditation with MCI defines the MBBS holder from India and an MD holder from Philippines at the same level.

Climate and Proximity to India:

Moving beyond these benefits, the Philippines provide a climate that is similar to India’s and is closer to home than the US. The tuition and cost of living is lower than in the USA, while you will receive the same accredited degree. There are no hidden costs or donations – the money you will be spending is just tuition and your cost of living.
