  • Ensure the use of simple language as the LOR reflects your skills not vocab while ensuring that the length of the LOR does not exceed 450 words.
  • Ensure that you choose your recommender on the basis of comprehensive interactions like Project guide, mentor, taught over 2 subjects which you scored well.
  • When your recommender attributes a skill to you, please state a clear correlation as to the manner in which you have actually manifested that skill. For eg. I noted that he is a brilliant raconteur, his recounting of his internship experience was engaging.
  • For a work LOR, ensure that be certain that the LOR comprehensively covers your key result areas, your service level agreements, your success in meeting these, the skills that are mandated to accomplish the tasks set out for you

AVOID THESE ASPECTS IN YOUR LOR

  • Choosing a recommender whom you don’t know well enough or had few interactions with.
  • Fawning praise or admiration for your skills from a scholar who happens to be your professor would ring untrue. Only and only if you are a child prodigy, can this caveat be ignored!
  • Ensure that the mentioned the skills and activities that are mentioned would correlate to the nature of the interactions with the recommender.
  • The recommender must keep the LOR within the relationship of student-professor or employee-supervisor. please avoid attesting to personal characteristics such as good son, loyal friend etc.
  • The name, designation, contact details of the recommender must be clearly specified at the end of the Letter of Recommendation.
