Philippines has turned out to become a very popular study destination among Indian students who wish to study medicine ie. MBBS. Low cost of study, safe country, recognition in India and many such factors make Philippines a good destination for Indian students.
MD / MBBS in Philippines – Quick Notes:
Duration of MBBS in Philippines: 5.5 years. First, you will have to pursue the Bachelor of Science program which is 1 year and 4 months, and is considered the medical foundation. The following 4 years will be your DM i.e. Doctor of Medicine which includes your medicine program as well the clinical rotations. For the first year of MD, you learn medical sciences. In the 2nd and 3rd years you specialize in focus areas. The final year of the MD includes clinical rotations in different departments.
Language of Instruction: Only English! This is what gives it an advantage over studying medicine in China, Russia and Ukraine
Entry Requirements: 12 years of education is mandatory ie. you can study after your class 12 in India. All National and State Board, and all the international boards ie A Levels or IBDP are acceptable
Language Certificate/ Test: English Proficiency Test may be required for some top institutes. Learn more about IELTS or TOEFL
Route To Study: You will need to clear your 12th standard board examinations with at least 60% in the Physics-Chemistry-Biology triumvirate. Once you have this, you can make applications to various medical colleges in Philippines. You will have to visit the Philippine Embassy to have your documents verified as well.
Factors For Admission: Your scores in your 10th and 12th as well as the English language proficiency test you may have to take will determine your eligibility to this program. However, if you fail your health check you won’t be allowed to enter the country.
Intakes: There are 2 intakes – July and November. The deadlines are usually around the end of February. The academic year constitutes two semesters – one from June/ July to October/ November and the other from November/December to March/ April.
Fee Range: The fee for the 4 year program is usually around INR 15 lacs. Most often, universities require the tuition to be paid annually, which means you will be expected to pay somewhere between INR 2.75 lacs and 3.5 lacs annually depending on which institution you opt to study at. The cost of living is relatively cheaper in the Philippines and will be INR 12000-18000 per month. So your total cost would be somewhere around the range of INR 25-28 lacs.
Entrance Exams: National Medical Admission Test result (photocopies which will be authenticated by the Philippine Embassy) if opting for PG studies. English Proficiency Test may be required for some top institutes. PRC Board Rating Certificate if exam has been given

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree is offered. MBBS and MD in Philippines are both primary and equivalent undergraduate medical qualifications where MBBS is the British System and MD is the American System of Education. The MD program of Philippines is a unique opportunity to students who have passed 12th standard or equivalent examinations to pursue medical education of International standards.
It lasts for 5 years and 4 months followed by one year internship which can be undertaken in India after completion of Screening test and procuring Provisional Registration of MCI. After successful completion of Screening Test and internship, the student is eligible to register with MCI and State Medical Councils and can practice in India.

- Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) recognized, which will make the candidates eligible to appear for USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination). Upon successful completion of this test, the student is eligible to practice or undertake a PG degree in USA.
